Curiosity over memorization
Questions are welcome and exploration is part of the work. We treat learning as something active, not something to be recited back.

Our promise
Grades matter, and we take them seriously. But strong results grow out of genuine understanding, effective habits, and skills a student keeps long after the exam. Shoreline Scholars exists to build those foundations — one conversation, one problem, one honest question at a time.
We don’t just teach students what to think. We help them discover how to think.
We ask why something works before asking what the answer is.
Students learn to trust their own reasoning, not just follow steps.
The goal of every session is comprehension that lasts beyond the test.
Our philosophy
Questions are welcome and exploration is part of the work. We treat learning as something active, not something to be recited back.
Mistakes are information. Students examine their reasoning, find the misconception, and leave with a deeper grasp of the idea.
Our tutors guide rather than solve. Students build the habit of approaching an unfamiliar problem with a strategy of their own.
Progress is measured against a student’s own starting point — personal milestones, not a classmate’s report card.
Academic departments
Every subject is taught the same way: understand the reasoning first, then practice it until it belongs to the student.
How we meet
Both formats deliver the same individualized instruction, the same pace, and the same expectation that a student leaves understanding more than they arrived with.
Arranged around your family’s schedule and location across the North Shore.
Available nationwide, with the same one-to-one attention as an in-person session.
The founder
My name is Finn McKay, and I founded Shoreline Scholars with a simple idea: learning should be about more than grades. My relationship with school changed in my sophomore year — not because someone pushed me harder, but because I finally understood something that had seemed impossible.
I would have benefited from that realization years earlier. Shoreline Scholars is how I want to offer it to other students.
“Some of the most rewarding moments in education happen when you finally understand something that initially seemed impossible.”
